The Essentials
8 Rules for Longer-Lasting Flowers
Trim the Stems
Cut at least 1–2 inches off the stems at a 45° angle before placing them in water. Repeat every other day.
Read more →💧Fresh Water Daily
Change the vase water every day or every other day. Bacteria build up quickly and shorten bloom life dramatically. Rinse the vase each time before refilling with cool, clean water.
Read more →🌡️Keep Them Cool
Flowers last longest in a cool environment — ideally 65–72°F. Keep them away from heat vents, sunny windowsills, and appliances that generate warmth. At night, moving them to a cooler room can add days of life.
Read more →🌬️Avoid Ethylene Sources
Keep flowers away from ripening fruit (especially bananas and apples), which release ethylene gas that accelerates wilting. Also avoid placing them near cigarette smoke or car exhaust.
Read more →🌿Remove Foliage Below the Waterline
Any leaves sitting in the water will rot quickly and contaminate the water. Strip all foliage from the lower portion of stems — only the stems themselves should be submerged.

The packet included with your arrangement contains a mix of sugar (fuel), acidifier (improves water uptake), and biocide (fights bacteria). Follow the instructions on the packet for the best results.
Read more →☀️Indirect Light Only
Bright, indirect light is ideal. Direct sunlight heats the blooms and water, causing faster deterioration. A well-lit room without direct sun exposure is the sweet spot.

As individual flowers fade, remove them promptly. Dying blooms release ethylene and bacteria that accelerate the decline of the remaining healthy flowers. Keep the arrangement fresh by pruning as you go.

Care Tips by Bloom Type
Roses
Remove the guard petals (the outer 2–3 petals) if they look damaged. Re-cut stems every 2 days. Roses love slightly warm water to help them open.
Tulips
Tulips continue to grow after being cut — they can grow up to an inch in the vase. Keep them in a cool spot and change water daily. They prefer shallow water.
Lilies
Remove pollen-covered stamens as soon as they're visible to prevent staining and extend bloom life. Lily pollen stains fabric and pollen removal encourages the flower to stay open longer.
Sunflowers
Sunflowers are thirsty — check water levels daily. They prefer room-temperature water and do best in a bright spot (not direct sun). Re-cut stems every other day.
Hydrangeas
Hydrangeas drink through their petals as well as stems. Mist them lightly with water daily and make sure the vase is always full. If they wilt, submerge the entire head in water for 30 minutes.
Orchids
Cut orchid stems thrive in clean water changed every 2–3 days. Keep them at room temperature away from drafts. They are sensitive to ethylene, so keep away from fruit.
